A dialysis technician is critical in the life of a patient suffering from chronic or acute renal failure. To work as a dialysis technician, you must become certified. This requires that you have a high school diploma or equivalent and complete a clinical hemodialysis technician training course. In addition to the schooling requirements, you must also have hands on experience in this field working directly with patients.
Once you have met these requirements, you must take an exam to become a Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician. This certification is offered by the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission. The certification is good for three years at which time you will be required to renew it. Three thousand hours of work experience must have been completed along with 30 hours of continuing education.

Those who choose to work in a hospital tend to make more than those who work in dialysis centers. Salary is based in part on the number of years of work experience you have under your belt. Expect to make a median annual wage of approximately $25,000 to $32,000 a year.
